WHERE IS YOUR ENTRUSTMENT? ACTIVE, DORMANT, DON’T KNOW - KBA Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Aug. 1st, 2026.

“If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.  If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.” (Rom. 12:7-8 NLT) - ACTIVE

So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.  And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness.” (Mat. 25:28-30 NKJV) - DORMANT OR DON’T KNOW.

To fully appreciate the need to put our gifts in use and keep them in use till the Master comes, we need to read Matthew 24:45-51 (The Faithful Servant); Matthew 25:1-13 (Parable of the Ten Virgins); and Matthew 25:14-30 (Parable of the Talents). The emphasis Jesus lays on putting the gifts He deposited in us to proper use and the consequences of ignoring this is life and death.

Why do we resist putting our gift/talent into profitable use?

  • Fear of not being good enough (Mat, 25:25)

  • Being Judgemental (Mat. 25:24)

  • Wickedness, selfishness, carelessness (Mat. 24:48-49)

  • The believe that there is still time to catch up.

  • Laziness (Mat. 25:26)

  • Inadequate preparation (Mat. 25:10)

  • Comparison

God has equipped each one of us according to the demand of our assignment - “but it is the same God who works all in all, and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” (1 Cor. 12:6, 11) In the open markets, some have big shops while some have a single umbrella for their wares and some have no coverings at all. At the close of the market, they will all return home to access the day's work and their margins/profits tell the story of the day.

Many of us may not be different from the man who buried his talent. Your gift is not for keeps. Many people out there need that knowledge, wisdom, faith, whatever the gift. And if you do not know, ask the Holy Spirit today. Gideon did not know he was a born warrior until the angel of the Lord opened his understanding. Joseph never knew he would become a governor in a foreign land.

THE WORD: “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands…… Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.” (2 Tim. 6 & 14 NIV)
