PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

One of the oldest questions in the Bible is why do evil people prosper? Why do they seem to live better than the righteous? Why does God seem to look the other way? Prophet Jeremiah asked the same question, Job asked the same question, the Psalmist in several of his psalms asked the same question, Malachi asked the same question, Habakkuk was not left out. (Jer. 12:1-2; Ps. 73:3-13; Job 21:7; Hab. 1:6; Mal. 3:15)
So, why do the wicked prosper?
“You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What do we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the Lord Almighty? But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly evildoers prosper, and even when they put God to the test, they get away with it." (Mal.3.14-15.NIV)
When we too join the choruses of "why does the wicked seem to prosper", we are :
● comparing notes because our attention shifted from God to people.
● We acknowledge that there are wicked people and we ought to prosper more than them.
● We have allowed their deeds to overwhelm us and we not only accused God but we became the judge.
● we forget that we were once in their shoes before we were pulled out into God’s marvellous light. (Eph. 5:8; Col. 1:13)
● We forget that we ought to pray for them to come to the light as well because they are also children of the living God and God’s delay to punish them is His loving grace to bring them into the fold. (Mat. 5:45; 2 Pet, 3:15)
There are two kingdoms: kingdom of light/heaven and the kingdom of darkness/earthly. Children of each kingdom live well as they ought. The difference is that the earthly kingdom is here and we see the people in it living it. The kingdom of heaven is not on this earth, so, the children of this kingdom are just passing by with the minimum comfort and the mighty presence of God. It is logical to believe that believers are under the oppression of the wicked because the wicked are in power here just like Pharaoh oppressed the Israelites. The wicked do not want us to pass through just as the Edomite and Amorites did not allow the Israelites to pass through their lands. (Numb. 20:18-20; 21:21-23)
THE WORD: “Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” (Psa. 37:1-3 NIV)
