PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.May 18th, 2025
SECRET SINS (Psa.19:13) "Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults." (Psa.19.12.KJV)
Secret sin! I spent hours looking for a simple key to unlock what this could mean and how to overcome, while the answer was in front of me all the time and in the same verse of the Bible quoted. 'WHO CAN KNOW OR UNDERSTAND HIS ERRORS?' We simply can't. This is why it is secret because we didn't know and can't know all the things we do that constitute sin. An innocent comment or what looks like it, could spark off an unquenchable fire of war and you may be oblivious of your involvement. But God knows.
A thought or action shared is not and cannot be a secret though those involved may call it 'a secret' to give it some power or importance/relevance. A secret is hidden, concealed, removed from observation or the knowledge of others (KJV Dictionary). In this case, it is possible that we may not know that we are harbouring sin!!! Hence the prayer; "cleanse me from secret faults." We are drawn away by our own desires and things that enticed us (James 1:14). Whoever lusts after a woman already committed adultery with her (Mat. 5:28). "For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander." (Mat.15.19.NIV). God sees these desires at the manufacturing stage, it may not be fully executed - it is still sin though 'secret.' "When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up, kills the poor and needy, and in the night steals forth like a thief. The eye of the adulterer watches for dusk; he thinks, ‘No eye will see me,’ and he keeps his face concealed." (Job.24.14-15.NIV; Psa. 10:8-11)
Who knows what happens behind closed doors? Who knows the thought of the one that dips bread with you? (Mat. 26:23) There is no construction of a man’s thought on his face.
Achan stole in secret even though he had the warning, hid his loot in secret but was openly exposed by God after many lives had been lost (Josh. 7:1-26). Achan never had the opportunity to use the stolen goods. He was stoned to death.
Secret sins have serious consequences. BEWARE!
THE WORD: “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy." (Prov.28.13.NIV)
