Why was the stone rejected?
We all know that for the foundation of any building to stand the test of time, it needs stones not sand at its foundation to make it stand solid so that when
"The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
(Mat.7.25.NIV). But the foundation laid on sand will be wiped away by the least of storms.
From the beginning, this paradox of truth and lies, right and wrong, good or bad, righteousness or evil deeds have been a lifelong battle partners. Evil tendencies try to erode the solid foundation built on truth. But can it? Absolutely not. Though it can cause some irreparable damage and those who shift focus from the truth will be completely destroyed. "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psa.11.3.NIV) A solid foundation resists destruction regardless of the cost. Are you on solid foundation?
The Scriptures often talk about 'the remnants', - these are the survivors of solid foundations. They refused to bend. They refused intimidation.
Daniel's friends are a good example of this (Dan. 3:16-18). The Levites who lost everything to move to southern Israel to worship the true God (2 Chron 11:16). The disciples who died gruesome deaths to keep the gospel alive.
What can the righteous do?
Stand your ground. "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psa.91.1-2.NIV)
When the marriage institution is being destroyed to accommodate homosexuality, stand on the side of truth. When the child education is being falsified, teach yours the way of the Lord. When the church is going under, deviating from the written truth, seek the truth and you will find it. When everything is falling apart, grow your faith not fear.
The distortions or replacement of the truth by the world is not fought like the Russia/Ukraine war. Rather, it is an ongoing war and the Captain is Jesus Christ. Stand your ground. Be on the side of the truth and victory is assured.
THE WORD: "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes." (Psa.118.22-23.NIV)
