WHAT IS THIS PROVERB? (Ezek. 12:22)
“Son of man, you’ve heard that proverb they quote in Israel: ‘Time passes, and prophecies come to nothing.’ Tell the people, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will put an end to this proverb, and you will soon stop quoting it.’ Now give them this new proverb to replace the old one: ‘The time has come for every prophecy to be fulfilled!" (Ezek.12.22-23.NLT)

A quick background story to this proverb: This was a case of true prophets against false prophets which was based on the captives to Babylon longing to return back to Jerusalem. God's true message was that the people will be in exile until He brings them back. But Hananiah prophesied that within two years, God said He will bring back all that was taken away (Jer. 27-28), hence the proverb - "time passes and prophecies come to nothing."
We all know that; "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life." (Pro.13.12.NLT). When hope or longing is delayed, false prophets thrive. This is our reality today. A disregard for the true prophets is followed by a recognition of the false. But God is saying; “Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams, because they are telling you lies in my name. I have not sent them,” says the Lord." (Jer.29.8-9.NLT)

Peter warns; Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.” (2 Pet.3.3-4.NLT). But we know that Jesus is coming again.

In like manner, if you are overwhelmed by your personal desires and will not wait for God's desire for your life, you have automatically opened the door for false prophets to play on your emotions and desperation.

The God who brought the earth out of the waters, who created boundaries between the earth and the seas, who called the same water to cover the earth as flood, and then restored the earth again, is able to restore your life no matter how damaged. The proverb has changed. The time has come for every prophecy to be fulfilled.

THE WORD: “For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night." (1 Thes.5.2.NLT)
