DEFEATED ENEMIES CAN RISE AGAIN IF.......
Hezekiah did what was right: "This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. [21] In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.
(2 Chron.31.20-21.NIV) But Manasseh his son returned to the evil deeds that his father destroyed before the Lord. "But Manasseh led Judah and the people of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites. The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. So the Lord brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon." (2 Chron.33.9-11.NIV)
Remember that God sent back the king of Assyria because Hezekiah prayed to God for help. But Manasseh sinned against God, God brought back the king of Assyria to teach him a lesson.
This pattern runs throughout the Bible. In the time of Joshua, the sin of Achan caused Ai to defeat Israel (Jos. 7) Same during the era of the Judges. And same with us too. We spend days, months and even years praying and fasting for God to deliver us from the enemy's holds and He grants us our request. Then we fall back into sin and the situation is worse than before. The same enemy, ( can be same sickness, unemployment, war instead of peace etc) comes back with vengeance. What happens to earlier testimonies? (Mat. 12:43-45). The same enemy that ran before us several times, can come back and lord it over us when we fall back into sin. *The reason is simple; when you become unclean, you stay with the unclean. When you are clean, you stay with the clean. It prevents contamination.
The Bible consistently presents sin as a destructive force that hinders spiritual victory and leads to negative consequences. In other words, it is self-destructive. No wonder David prayed: "But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me......." (Psa.19.12-13.NIV)
THE WORD: "If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning." (2 Pet.2.20.NIV)
