THE POOR ARE RICHER THAN THE RICHEST OF THE WORLD!
This is about spiritual and material riches. The Bible makes it clear that you have to be poor in spirit to be blessed with heavenly riches. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
(Mat.5.3.NIV)

Abraham was richer than Pharaoh and king Abimelech individually or combined. They both took, at that time but on different occasions, his only companion, his wife (like taking his only possession in the world). Abraham was a wanderer of no fixed address. All he had was FAITH in an unseen God, who was his hidden treasure and power (Gen. 12:15-17; 20:1-8)

"Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?" (Jas.2.5-6.NIV)

This scripture passage goes into the heart of the story of the Rich man and Lazarus as told by Jesus (Luke 16:19-31). Lazarus did not make heaven because he was a beggar but more because he believed in God - could be why the Rich man wanted Abraham to send Lazarus back to earth to testify to his brothers (vs 27-28)
Ironically, Jesus brought another Lazarus back to life and this miracle brought many to believe in Him. (John 11:1-48)

"Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil." (Prov.15.16.NLT)

Like the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21), “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” (NLT), was the fate of the Laodicean church - "You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked." (Rev.3.17.NLT) Meanwhile, Churches are building up material wealth today more than the spiritual need of the people. Do humans ever learn?

THE WORD: So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see." (Rev.3.18.NLT)
