WORK THE WORKS WHILE IT IS DAY. - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT.
August 7th, 2025

WORK THE WORKS WHILE IT IS DAY.
"We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John.9.4-5.NLT)

This verse (John 9:4) has a tone of urgency - like we have to hurry for we do not have the luxury of time.
Before this statement, Jesus was walking when He saw a man who was born blind. His disciples automatically believed he must have been born blind as punishment for the sin of his parents. The question was who of the parents? Jesus clarify that he was born blind to reveal the power of God. Jesus later spat on the ground, made a clay with His saliva and pasted it on the blind man eyes. In between answering His disciples question and preparing the clay substance, He made this urgent almost desperate statement that "we MUST WORK the WORKS of Him who sent us while it is still day......" It is obvious that verses 4 & 5 were not about the man born blind. It is about the works of redemption of Luke 4:18. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come." (NLT). The time we have to do the works, is not about day and night because Jesus said He is the light of the world. In His light, there is no day or night but only life and death - hence the urgency (while we are still breathing)

Believers are redeemed for a purpose only while on the face of the earth - "go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Mat.28.19-20.NLT)

The man born blind had lived in darkness all his life until The Light of the world gave him light - his sight. How many more blind souls in the world? How many more men and women born blind waiting for the light? Will you just walk pass or lead them to the light?

Simon of Cyrene carried the cross for Jesus. He shared in His burden. What are we waiting for? Night is coming when we will not be able to work because only the living can praise the Lord!

THE WORD: "As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified."
(John.17.18-19.NIV)
