"FOR WITHOUT ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING." (2)
It was God who wrote on the wall with what looked like a human hand because Belshazzar, the son of Nebuchadnezzar who reigned after his death, dared to drink from the Lord’s sacred vessels in honour of the pagan gods of Babylon. Belshazzar and his lords dishonored the one true God and brought final judgment upon themselves (Dan. 5:22-24). "Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription." (Dan.5.24.NIV)
God was very specific when He said; “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols." (Isa.42.8.NIV). Every word of God carries weight and the judges gavel. Ignorance is no excuse. And probably why Daniel needed to remind Belshazzar who was in control - "Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways." (Dan.5.23.NIV)
Meanwhile, Daniel for his part was remembered and promoted for his faithfulness.
It was God who gave Daniel an excellent spirit which included an extraordinary intelligence that the 3rd king, Darius, planned to give him a new position above all other administrators, princes or satraps. It was God in the lion's den. "My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” (Dan.6.22.NIV). This particular incident happened first to humble Darius the king and second to bring to an end the wickedness of the wicked (Psa.7:9). Those who plotted against Daniel, plus their families were devoured by the same lions meant for Daniel. Meanwhile, God was glorified (6:6-27).
Then, God did something extraordinary with Daniel. He revealed His majesty to him and gave him the blue print of His plan for redemption and for eternity.
The Book of Daniel contains how God can use anyone for His works, favour and bless people, humiliate or humble, lift up or bring down, gives or takes lives and also revelation. IT IS ALL ABOUT GOD.
THE WORD: “For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.” (Dan.6.26b-27.NIV)
