WHY THE NEED TO CHANGE OTHERS BUT YOURSELF? - Devotional

WHY THE NEED TO CHANGE OTHERS BUT YOURSELF?
There is the deep desire in many of us to change the people around them to conform to the image created in their minds to fit their social status ignoring the personality of the other person/s. This attitude is very common among married couples, parent/children and sometimes friends. Why?

It is an illusion of power, a mistaken belief that one has control, authority, influence than they actually possess. It is an overestimated self capabilities with a temporary shelf life. The servitude, oppressive position of the 'victims' ignites satisfaction, power, and a sense of control in the oppressor. These manipulative, controlling people are destroyers, killers and thieves (John 10:10). Meanwhile, God doesn't want anyone to conform to the world system; "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.........." (Rom.12.2.NLT)

True and lasting change comes first from you and it flows to people around you effortlessly. It is the complete opposite of trying to change other people. The latter usually ends up destroying relationships. "Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye." (Mat.7.5.NLT)

Do you want to enjoy peace and long life? Do you want to avoid stress and sadness? Do not attempt to change anybody. Focus on changing yourself to be more accommodating, understanding, and compassionate. Follow Jesus's examples. Obey God's instructions. Pray that the other/s will delight in God's word and become peace to others. God loves all as we are and it is only Him that can transform us. What you are trying so hard to change in others may be their strength. It may be what you need to make you a better person. "Those who lead good people along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the honest will inherit good things." (Prov.28.10.NLT)

To those who have been subjected to this abuse and have seen the light, let the Word of God set you free. Take your case to the Lord in prayer.

THE WORD: For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Tim.1.7.NLT)
