CALLED TO SERVE AND NOT TO BE SERVED.
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mat. 20:25-28)

CALLED TO SERVE AND NOT TO BE SERVED.

Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mat. 20:25-28)
It is amazing and very thought provoking that during Jesus’ three years ministry, He lived among the people and the people could not identify Him among His disciples. Judas Iscariot had to give Him away with kiss. “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” (Mat. 26:48 NIV) This was in sharp contrast to the way the Pharisees presented themselves. “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on
their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. (Mat. 23:5-7 NIV) Here, WE SEE HUMILITY AND ARROGANCE ON DISPLAY. But we know that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17 NIV)
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to serve others. It is a life of sacrifice leading by example even as God served us in Psalm 23. All through this Psalm, it is God as the Shepherd providing our needs. It is God preparing where to lay down. It is God leading to where the still water is. It is God providing the comfort and guiding us away from the enemies. It is God who ensures our safety. God serves us and we ought to serve likewise.
We are not expected to make life more difficult than it is already is. Rather, we should lighten the burden of others just as Jesus encourages us to bring all our burdens to Him (Mat. 11:28-29) “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat......But do not do what they do, They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.” (Mat. 23:2-4).
This kind of leadership is all around us.
THE WORD: "But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." (Mat.23.12.NLT)
