PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

OUR CITY OF REFUGE.
Jesus Christ is our city of refuge and unlike the cities of refuge in the Old Testament, we run to Him with all kinds of sins and worries – intentional, unintentional, premeditated, and many more. In the Old Testament, six cities were provided for “Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate. But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death.” (Exo 21:12-14 NIV)
The provision for protection was limited because the Law specifically stated that ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But Jesus Christ’s refuge is rooted in forgiveness. One of the main reasons for the preaching of forgiveness is – THE PAST CANNOT BE UNDONE BUT THE PRESENT CAN BE BETTER LIVED. A murderer can become a saint.
This does not spare the offender from the consequences of his action/s but because Jesus Christ has paid for the sin, his burden is lighter.
“God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” (Heb. 6:18-20 NIV)
With all that is happening today – economic stress and threats, kidnappings here and there and nowhere is safe, people rightfully get concerned and many look for a place of safety. God, through His word, has shown where we are to look to find safety, refuge, meaning and hope. And He tells all of mankind to flee to that place and stay there. Jesus as our refuge provides safety, freedom, daily needs, love, and peace for as long as we live and even in death. This High Priest cannot die and we don’t have to leave the city of refuge.
We all have a choice; we can run to Christ as our refuge or stay out and live in fear of the current situation and of not knowing your final destination.
THE WORD: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
