DEPRESSION (3) - Devotional

PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

DEPRESSION (3)
WATCH WHAT YOU SAY WHEN YOU ARE DEPRESSED; it may work against you.

The Israelites in their state of depression, complained against God and this happened! “They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.” (Num.21:4-7 NIV)

After three years of famine, Elijah showed himself to the king Ahab. It was during this encounter that he performed the spectacular miracle of fire from heaven. Then he killed all the prophets of Baal. When Jezebel heard about it, she vowed to kill Elijah. “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:2-5 NIV) This was when he fell into depression. What followed may have cut his ministry short.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram.  Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, AND ANOINT ELISHA  SON OF SNAPCHAT from Abel Meholah TO SUCCEED YOU AS PROPHET.” (1 Kings 19:13b-16 NIV)

God is not to blame for our wrong choices in life and our wrong choice of words when we feel hopeless. Our actions have consequences especially when we disobey God. Obedience = Blessings; Disobedience = Curse. Count the cost before you speak.

THE WORD: "He  who  is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city." (Pro.16.32.NKJV)
