PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT
Feb. 21st, 2026.
The answer is YES because there is no other Rock. “Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, THERE IS NO OTHER ROCK; I know not one.” (Isa. 44:8 NIV)
Moses and Aaron stood in front of the Rock, the whole nation of Israel surrounded them demanding water. And armed with specific instruction from God as to what he should do to give the people water, Moses then asked the people the QUESTION that sealed his years of hard labour - MUST WE BRING YOU WATER OUT OF THIS ROCK? (Num. 20:10) And the answer is capital YES because there is no other Rock. The second observation is, Moses used the word ‘we’ which can be interpreted as Aaron and himself - we know that they did not possess that power. The ‘we’ may have included God - we know that, that will bring God to their level. The fallout, both ways, was clear in what God said: “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” (Num. 20:12 NIV)
But the focus today is on that question - must we bring out water out of this Rock? There is no other Rock that can supply our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:19) irrespective of our complaints as His people. Moreover, God's instruction is; “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Mat. 7:7-8 NIV) Therefore, by hitting the Rock twice, Moses was rewriting the scriptures. God is to be reverenced not disrespected.
Many of us find ourselves in the shoes of Moses. We yell at God, we accuse God of unfairness. We blame God for the consequences of our actions. We sometimes go as far as turning our backs on Him. We are so angry sometimes that we worsen our situation by what we say. The truth is, there is no other Rock and no other God as our God.
THE WORD: He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.” (Rev. 21:6 NIV)
