PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

Nothing comes easy. Everything we do requires some degree of effort. Whether the effort invested is enough or requires more effort depends on the yield or result expected and if it meets the goal or satisfaction. If it doesn’t, then you put more effort. But some things are once in a lifetime opportunities; investing minimal effort may produce little or no yield. This is why the scriptures encourage us that in whatsoever we do, we should do it as if we are doing it unto God (Col. 3:23-24) - encourages maximum effort.
In Luke 5:3-4, Jesus got into one of the boats—it belonged to Simon—and asked him to push off a little from the shore. Jesus sat in the boat and taught the crowd. When he finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch.” (GNT) Jesus gave these fishermen four instructions; push the boat off the shore, listen to my reaching, push the boat further into the deep, let down your nets.
*Push the boat from the shore - meaning leave your comfort zone, leave safety, try something you haven’t done before, trust the voice of wisdom, try the new technology.
*Jesus sat in the boat and taught the crowd - first receive the Word, listen, meditate on it, believe it and apply it. Do not leave by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Fishing was their livelihood - their daily bread. Jesus changed the order of things - first the Word - manna from heaven; then the natural bread. Seek first the kingdom of God (Mat. 6:33).
*Push further into the deep - implies that now you know I am with you as provider and protector, leap further into the deep. Do not fear; do not be afraid, let down your nets for a catch.
Peter protested like many of us do. “Master,” Simon answered, “we worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5 GNT)
Here is the power of obedience even if reluctantly. They caught more fish than they ever did in their entire lives. “A branch cannot bear fruit by itself; it can do so only if it remains in the vine. In the same way you cannot bear fruit unless you remain in me.” (John 15:4 GNT) Do you desire a bountiful harvest from your work? Follow the “Boat” procedures.
Push further into the deep is encouraging us to dive deeper into the word of God. Let us not remain in the shallow end where we may be subjected to instability borne out of doubts and fear.
THE WORD: “Then we shall no longer be children, carried by the waves and blown about by every shifting wind of the teaching of deceitful people, who lead others into error by the tricks they invent.” (Eph. 4:14 GNT)
