PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

The Ten commandments - the last of the ten commandments, that is the 10th commandment is: “You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.” Exo. 20:17 NLT) I want to believe that many believers like me, pay the least attention to the 10th commandment unlike the first nine. Meanwhile, the 10th commandment is the root cause of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th commandments according to James 4:2. The scriptures say that to covet, is idolatry. “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” (Col. 3:5) In this case, it also affects the first four commandments. Why?
Because what causes strife comes from inside the mind - the desire to be like others and to have what others have which leads to adultery, murder, stealing, lying, idolatry - sums up to covetousness. “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” (Mark 7:21-23 NLT) They are all covetous.
Coveting is about worldly possessions and life is not about possessions. Never compare your life with others. This may be difficult because we all run this life on competition - the unhealthy kind. The Bible says each of us is unique. No two people are the same. We must make this truth count and stop the disease of coveting before it ruins us (Eph. 5:5). Contentment rather than coveting is a great gain!
THE WORD: “Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.” (1 Tim. 6:6-8 NLT)
