PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, WHETHER OR NOT YOU WOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDS. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live ON BREAD ALONE but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deut. 8:2-3 NIV)
The emphasis is not on bread but on ALONE. In Egypt, the Israelites were subjected to hard labour in order to put food on their tables. No work, no pay. No pay, no bread. Just as it is with us today. You have to look for work otherwise, you do not deserve to eat (2 Thes. 3:10). But God changed this way of thinking in the wilderness - our focus and fear of lack, to focus and trust on Him as the ONE AND ONLY PROVIDER. Pharoah provided bread through hard labour, God provided bread through supernatural means. Pharoah engaged slave masters to beat them to submission, God engages our obedience to surrender. The bread that Pharoah, employer, gives is very temporary but the bread that God gives is everlasting. The truth is, as long as you obey God, prosperity and success shall be your companion all your life (Josh. 1:8) “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. IN VAIN YOU RISE EARLY AND STAY LATE, TOILING FOR FOOD to eat (labour, sounds familiar)— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” (Psa. 127:1-2)
Should I not work then? The Bible encourages us to work (Prov. 16:27; 1 Tim. 5:18; Luke 10:7; Deut. 25:4) “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard…” (Mat. 20:1-16 NIV). DO NOT LET YOUR JOB ROB YOU OF GOD’S RELATIONSHIP AND PROVISION - not by labour but by obedience.
THE WORD: "Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35 NIV)
