PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“The last enemy to be destroyed is death.” (1 Cor. 15:26 NIV)
Jesus’ resurrection marks the first time in history that someone rose from the dead never to die again. Others who were raised from the dead eventually died a second time (see 1 Kings 17:17–24; 2 Kings 4:32–37; Mark 5:39–42; John 11:38–44). And without the resurrection, there would have been no gospel. It is the resurrection of Jesus Christ that broke the curse pronounced on mankind in Genesis 2:17 - “but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” (NIV) Adam’s disobedience brought the death sentence and only the sacrificial blood of Jesus can destroy it.
Jesus said: “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.” (John 10:17 NIV) and Peter attested to this: “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” (Acts 2:24 NIV)
When the priests, the elders, the teachers of law and the people demanded that Jesus must be crucified, they least knew they were not only fulfilling prophecy but that the suffering and death of Jesus destroyed the last enemy. The ultimate WEAPON OF FEAR was destroyed. Death has no hold on anyone who believes in Jesus Christ. “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” (1 Cor. 15:17-20 NIV)
There was also a great multitude who came out of the grave after Jesus descended into the grave, to attest to this victory. “And the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.” (Mat. 27:52-53 NIV) Therefore we can say; “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” (1 Cor. 15:55 NIV)
Naturally, no one wants suffering or pain but we are reminded that “weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” (Psa. 30:5 NIV) “A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.” (John 16:21-22 NIV) We too need to endure pain, suffering, shame, for a little while for our Joy in Christ to be full knowing that death no longer has power over us.
THE WORD: “I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” (Rev. 1:18 NIV)
