PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

May 8th, 2026.

Prophets are the audible voice of God. They act as intermediaries between the seen (the people) and the unseen God. Their position commands great respect among the people who also look up to them for solutions and often see the prophets as if seeing God. This makes it easy for the false prophets to infiltrate the people.

In the Old Testament, there was a limited edition of the Word of God. This made reliance on the prophets very strong and powerful. Whatever was said became the truth of God. But today, there are unlimited publications of the Word of God - spoken and written under the anointing of God Himself, the Holy Spirit. Nobody should be in darkness anymore because everyone can verify the correctness of whatever the prophet says. “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1) Jesus warns; “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” (Mat. 7:15)

The Bible gives us two specific tests to know the true prophets - the test of time.

First:You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?”  If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.” (Deut. 18:21-22 NIV)

The issue: there were false prophets who prophesied and it came to pass. For example Balaam (Num. 22-24) Zedekiah (1 Kings 22:11) So, God added another layer to the test.

Second:If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,”  you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deut. 13:1-3 NIV)

Miracles can be performed even by magicians. A prophet that leads people away from God is leading them to Hell. These are prophets who speak what the people want to hear and not what God says (Jer. 14:14-16) Like Balaam who symbolizes greed, corruption, and the seduction of believers into compromising their faith with the world (Rev. 2:14). Shine your ears and shine your eyes. Look out for more.

THE WORD: “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord……...  Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.  In their GREED THESE TEACHERS WILL EXPLOIT YOU with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.” (2 Pet. 2:1-3 NIV)
