  • What is wisdom? 

Wisdom is the fear of God. (Prov. 1:7)

  • What is the fear of God?

The fear of God is obedience to His instructions?

  • What are the instructions of God?

The instructions of God are His dos and don'ts - His Word as written in the Holy Bible. To get wisdom is to acquaint or familiarize yourself with the word of God.

  • So, what is wisdom? Wisdom is God and God is wisdom.


Paul wrote: “but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” (1 Cor. 1:24 NIV) Jesus declared Himself as the wisdom of God. “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” (Mat. 11:24 NIV)


Unlike knowledge, wisdom is not learnt in classrooms or anywhere else. It is a gift directly from God. Solomon knew this when he prayed; “Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (2 Chron. 1:10 NIV) Wisdom is the ability to discern what is true and right, and the practical skill to apply that knowledge to live a life that honors God. It is not just about intelligence, but about moral character and making godly choices. Hence, James advises:  “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV)


The difference between the wisdom from God and the wisdom of man is: “..... the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” (1 Cor. 1:25 NIV) Why? “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.  Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,  but we preach Christ crucified:....” (1 Cor. 1:20-23 NIV) Isaiah added: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” (Isa. 29:14 NIV) This is why we still marvel at the simplicity of salvation. One minute we were guilty of sin and the next, we were declared righteous for believing in Jesus Christ as the son of God. (John 3:16; 1 John 1:9) Wisdom is the reason an unread person can preach the gospel - Peter comes to mind. Wisdom is God. Seek God through Christ and you will get wisdom.


THE WORD: “Why spend money on what is not bread,  and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.” (Isa. 55:2 NIV)
