PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY - MEDITATE DAY AND NIGHT

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.” (Luke 21:34 NIV)
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” (Prov. 12:25 NIV)
The burdens you carry are your walls of Jericho and they stand between you and your total liberation. Recall that after the Israelites have crossed the river Jordan, they were actually standing on the promised land that had been theirs forty years prior. They were circumcised, they ate the Passover and God even sent them the ‘commander of the army of the Lord’. Yes, you have been ‘born again’, you have received Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and ready for the joy of the Lord but there is a problem. The burdens you carry are too heavy for you. Just as the Israelites encountered the walls of Jericho but chose to trust God for break-through, you have a choice to make. It is either you trust your Redeemer with your challenges or you decide to carry them alone.
If you decide to carry them, as many of us are doing right now, they not only slow you down, they sap you of your freedom in Christ. “Those who the Son has set free are free indeed.” (John 8:36). You also miss the help already provided. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mat. 11:29-30 NIV) Just as the Lord sent help to Joshua and the walls of Jericho came down (Jos. 5 & 6) because Joshua and the people trusted God completely, you have help standing by too. Are you going to trust God completely?
Just as the impassable walls of Jericho miraculously collapsed through faith and obedience, any spiritual stronghold, burden, doubts, fears, hopelessness, bitterness, desperation, or pains, creating distance between you and Jesus can be broken. You only move forward when you learn to surrender all the weight that is holding you down. “...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” (Heb. 12:1) Know that you are not alone.
