“Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” (Psa. 100:3 NKJV)
"So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God" (Rom. 14:12)
We have a Boss whether we know it or not and whether we believe it or not - it does not change the fact. In a large corporate organisation, many employees claim they have never seen the CEO. That may be true but they should feel his presence. His voice echoes through, his signature is everywhere, his commands are executed daily to meet his goals. Your pay cheque carries his approval. You may not have seen him physically, but you cannot say you do not know him. God presents the same way on a much larger scale and no one can claim ignorance.
Throughout the Bible, there is a Before, a Now, and an After. We do not know our ‘before’ except that before we were born, He who formed us knows us and what He expects from each one of us. We know our ‘Now’ because we are living it but how many know that our ‘Now’ has everything to do with our ‘after’?
The principles of stewardship are OWNERSHIP, RESPONSIBILITY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND REWARD. When it comes to the earth and all the people therein, there is no mistaken ownership. God owns the earth and all its fullness (Psa 24:1). We are all saddled with the RESPONSIBILITY of how we manage the time, talents, and resources God entrusts in us (1 Pet. 4:10; Gen. 2:15). We must eventually ACCOUNT to God and answer for how well we managed everything given to us during our lives. (Rom. 14:12; Mat. 24:50) God faithfully honors and REWARDS those who use their lives and resources obediently to serve His kingdom. (Col. 3:23-24; Mat. 25:21)
We all understand that we brought nothing into this world and we will take nothing out. Naked we come, naked we will leave - very true but there is a portfolio that accompanies each of us when we arrive and when we depart. We came equipped for our assignment and we will leave with what we did with the resources at our disposal. We exit the world as naked as we came but we carry with us the invisible (to humans) report of our character. The cumulative assessment of our work and inter-personal relationship with other employees which may or may not guarantee our promotion. That decision is solely God’s to make.
THE WORD: “If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.” (1 Cor. 3:14-15 NKJV)
